As a homeowner you are required to approve work that was performed by the contractor. Most homeowners are not trained or informed enough to know what to look for or ask to confirm that the job was done correctly.
Did you know?
Almost every water damage job is left wet. In fact, 95% of the jobs that are “completed” are not. When moisture is left after a job is done, this can and will cause mold growth. This is why we never pull equipment prior to hitting Dry Standard – regardless of the situation. Why does this happen? Either the restoration company isn’t properly monitoring the moisture content – or they are pressured to pull the equipment early to save money on the claim. Either way, they’re both wrong. The Standard of Care is very clear on how to do a proper job.
What is a Preferred Vendor & Should I Hire One?
A preferred vendor is a company that will be strongly suggested by your insurance carrier to come and do the water mitigation work. The problem is, the preferred vendors don’t necessarily work for you. The insurance companies and preferred vendors work under the insurance companies terms & conditions. There is generally an agreement between the preferred vendors and insurance carriers that you likely do not know about. Would you hire a company armed with this knowledge, or would you want to have the opportunity to hire your own contractor? GOOD NEWS – you have every right to hire who you prefer!
Don’t let your decision be dictated for you, get a few other companies to look at what the damage is and make your own decision. Water leads to mold – make sure you’re confident in your contractor.
Wet Check
Introducing our Wet Check Inspection! We are offering for you to have an expert come to your home and check over the work that’s being done or has been done. We will show you what to look for and how a structure should be dried. This will ensure that your contractor is, or has done the proper job, and will keep everyone accountable from contractor to the insurance carrier.
During the Wet Check we will determing what the “Dry Standard” (IICRC S500) of your home is. Once that is determined, we will use different methods and techniques that most restoration companies do not use. A combination of old school moisture meters, to very high-tech equipment to detect possible missed moisture hiding deep inside the framing/structure. We will collect all of the data, put it into an easily understood document and report it to you, and if needed your insurance carrier if we find that the structure is not dry.
Third party validation/peer reviews are already a part of the industry. Our reviews are setup for the homeowners best interest to keep your home mold free after restoration work has been completed. If something is missed, the cost to repair or remediate it down the road can be astounding.
